Living in Tampa Bay. Loving it!

How many high schools can boast their own culinary academy! For students at Wharton High School in New Tampa, the academic-based program incorporates social studies and American history classes in a new and exciting way.

A couple months ago this program came to my attention when students of the program served samples of their cooking at stations set up throughout the Sweetbay Supermarket in New Tampa.

The program, I have since learned, is taught by "Chef" Edward Bujarski (who  helped to develop the school's culinary academy) and his co-teacher and wife, Lourdes Sarmiento. Bujarski, according to a Tampa Tribune article, was named the ProStart Florida Culinary Teacher of the Year in 2008. ProStart is a program of the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation intended to attract high school students into the food service industry.

What an amazing opportunity for Tampa's youth!
